Mentor and Executive Producer on DIGILANTE
In 2016, Lauren Elliott teamed up with one of most exciting voices in Australia’s next generation of documentary filmmakers, Mike Nayna and producer extraordinaire, Mark Conway from Melbourne production company, Checkpoint Media to produce her first ever documentary. The doco premiered on ABC2 in 2016 and is now available to stream on YouTube. DIGILANTE was the season finale in a series of five half hour documentaries produced as part of the fourth instalment of Opening Shot, an ABC and Screen Australia initiative designed to see young filmmaking teams bring a fresh perspective to some of the big issues facing younger Australians.
In 2012, Mike filmed a racist rant towards a French girl on a Melbourne bus. Mike’s video went viral and caused an international media storm as well as two jail terms and a spate of copycat incidents. In DIGILANTE, Mike confronts the real world consequences of his shaming video, including sitting down with the French girl as well as one of the most vocal “racists” from the bus, four years after the incident.
